Give Your Skin a Healthy Glow with Antioxidants

We all want to have glowing skin. Eating an unhealthy diet can actually harm the skin and make you look older. Eating foods that are high in antioxidants and other nutrients can not only benefit your body but can also do wonders for your skin. Here are some foods you can start eating to give you that healthy glow.

Red and Yellow Bell Peppers

Red and yellow peppers contain beta carotene which converts to vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A helps act as a natural sunblock. Orange foods such as carrots and sweet potatoes are also high in beta carotene.

One cup of cut peppers has 156% of the recommended daily value of vitamin A. But if that wasn’t enough, peppers also have a high amount of vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential in the production of collagen which keeps skin firm. Collagen may also help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Soy

Using soy as one of your sources of protein can also benefit your skin. Soy contains isoflavones which are plant compounds that can either mimic or block estrogen in the body.

Soy isoflavones may reduce wrinkles and improve skin elasticity in middle-aged women and increase collagen and ease skin dryness in postmenopausal women.

Green Tea

Green tea has been known to help kickstart metabolism. Green tea is also high in antioxidants called catechins. The antioxidants found in green tea can help protect your skin from sun damage.

Studies have found that green tea can not only reduce the redness from sun damage but may improve the thickness, moisture, and elasticity of the skin.

If you do drink green tea, do not drink it with milk or other dairy products as it may reduce the antioxidant effects of the tea.

Your skin is one of the largest organs in the body. By eating antioxidant-rich foods, you can help your skin look not only healthy and but more youthful and who wouldn’t want both!
